In China, there is a method of foundation improvement called Hanchiku which alternates layers of clay and sand. This method is applied to this colorful finish using earth color of different colors such as Chinese yellow earth, Hakui earth and light blue earth. Broken stones and gravels on the surface intensify the effect of the finish.
